Reg Park

The world’s most well-known bodybuilder is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Just like Muhammed Ali he was able to transcend his sport and become a superstar. What many people don’t know is that Arnold Schwarzenegger’s idol was Reg Park. Reg Park was a former NABBA Mr Universe winner who went on to star as Hercules after Steve Reeves retired. Reg Park was also an author. His books include A Big Chest for You, The Reg Park Mr Universe Barbell and Dumbbell Course and Big Arms for You.

Reg was born in Leeds in 1928 and died in 2007. Reg died in his home in South Africa following an eighteen- month battle with Skin Cancer. During his time in South Africa Reg Park raised his two children with his wife. In 1970 he returned to the Mr Universe competition where he was defeated by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Reg Park was six feet and one inch tall with a bodyweight of 250 pounds which is roughly eighteen stone off-season. His contest weight was between 214- 222 pounds/ fifteen to sixteen stone. Charisma, charm, determination, character, humility, consistency, strength of mind and sincerity are words that are often used to describe Reg Park. Bodybuilding champions, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, have openly said that Reg Park, as a bodybuilder and as a human being, helped inspire them to achieve their dreams. Reg Park’s legacy is also an inspiration to me.
